Tour of the hamlets

Salvan - Les Marécottes

The Tour des hameaux (hamlets tour) offers the opportunity to discover the built heritage of the hamlets in the commune of Salvan. Accessible to all, it offers several possibilities for eating or picnicking.

SIGHTS ON THE ROUTE

There are many sights and attractions: rock engravings, museums, isolated hamlets, zoo-pools, viewpoints, industrial remains. They often refer to famous people who lived or stayed in the region: Albert Gos, Emile Javelle, Igor Stravinsky, Guglielmo Marconi, José Giovanni, ... Mario*** or Eugène Rambert. Traditional buildings (barns, granaries, bread ovens, mills, houses) and first-generation tourist buildings (hotels, villas) follow one another along the route.

DESCRIPTION

From the entrance to Salvan, at the place called Les Marais, first visit the Moulin Fine and back, then follow the signs and go up behind the new school complex; reach the square of Salvan by the Allée district. Behind the Marconi Museum, take the small road leading to the hamlet of Bioley after crossing the bridge over the railway. From Bioley, follow the signs for the Grand Tête geoglyph (possibility of going directly to Les Granges without doing the Marecot loop). Under the former Grand Hôtel, turn right onto the path leading down to the combe des Granges, then to the Signal (viewpoint over the Rhône valley) and to the Marecot. At the entrance to the mayen, turn left to go up to Les Granges through the forest along the old CFF funicular.

At Les Granges, follow the Rue du Village, go straight on, 200m after the car park turn right onto the path for Les Marécottes-Planajeur, cross the road to the Van valley and follow the "Chemin des Messieurs" up the hillside. Leave on the right the path indicating the Creux du Loup (possibility of making a round trip to visit this old wolf trap) and continue in the direction of Les Marécottes, (possibility of making the Le Tsepelés-Planajeur loop for its viewpoint).

In the centre of Les Marécottes, go up towards the cable car, at the bottom of the square, take the direction of La Fontaine. Follow the road, then the old path to the railway line, cross it and go down a few steps to find the asphalt road shortly before the Triège gorges. Cross the bridge over the gorges and join the Trétien. Take the ramp leading to Bochatay, cross the hamlet and then go down to Lébas, go around the chapel to continue towards the hamlet of Planuit. In the middle of the houses, a small path leads below the village, then it slopes down to the Voi bridge. Cross the Triège and climb the opposite slope, leaving the path leading to the bottom of the valley on the right to reach the hamlet of Les Leysettes. Cross Les Leysettes, climb to La Médettaz and find the asphalt road to the zoo-pool. Cross the bridge over the railway line, pass the Mouretyè and reach the Marécottes station. Then follow the yellow signs to Salvan via Combasses, Tinderet and Bougnon.
