Trail des digues de Trient

Trient

Discover the Trient valley with this itinerary without technical difficulties. You will discover the refreshment bar of the Trient Glacier after a first rolling part, alternating tracks and small roads, ideal for warming up. Arriving at the refreshment bar, you will continue on a pretty little balcony path along the bisse de Trient. This irrigation canal was built on the old railway line that was used to transport ice from the Trient glacier to the Col de la Forclaz. In the 19th Century, before the invention of refrigerators, the Trient glacier was used industrially to provide the ice needed to preserve food. It was shipped to Paris or Marseille. Along the bisse de Trient, you can discover vestiges of this exploitation.
