Two private railway lines run from Martigny, serving two side valleys: the Martigny–Orsières and the Martigny–Châtelard lines, which are now grouped under a single name: TMR.
The stations dotted along the route of the first line are built of masonry and lack any particular charm, unlike those on the Martigny–Châtelard line, which are chalet-style and blend perfectly into the mountain landscape.
Why such a difference?
This is what this exhibition aims to explore, whilst highlighting the built railway heritage of the Trient Valley.
This type of structure can be found on various railway lines, such as in Graubünden, Gruyères, the Bernese Oberland and on other lines in Valais. A few are also scattered along the SBB lines.
But this type of structure served a very specific purpose, which visitors will discover in the exhibition, which will feature numerous photographs, plans and models.
