Géoglyphe de Grand Tête (The Silhouette Walk)

Salvan - Les Marécottes

The Grand Tête art trail links the stations of Salvan and Vernayaz. It can be walked in its entirety (good walkers) or in sections, depending on whether you choose to take a simple stroll or a day hike.
From the Salvan train station, follow the markings of the Grand Tête to reach the hamlet of Bioley, shortly after leaving the village, at the level of the former Grand Hôtel, take the path on the right down to the Combe des Granges, cross the asphalt road and continue through the meadows and the forest.

Continue along the hillside on the path leading to the hamlet of Marecot, cross the remains of the old CFF funicular and at the end of the forest go up to the left to join the forest path leading to Les Granges.

Enter the village and turn right onto the road towards Van d'en Haut along the historic path.

After a few bends, cross a dirt road, follow it to the right for about 100 metres to find the road to Van d'en Haut.

Follow it for 300 metres and take the path to the Col de la Matze.

Leave the path leading to Van d'en Bas and the Oeil de Grand Tête on the right to continue towards the Van d'en Haut bridge, cross it and turn right to follow the road to the Diés crossroads.

From Van d'en Bas and Les Diés you can reach in a few minutes the Oeil de Grand Tête, work of the artist Alain Monney.

Follow this road and then climb the path around the Salantin towards Cocorié. Above Les Diés, take the road leading to Plan Dzora, shortly before this place, turn right onto the forest track towards the Salantin chalet. Follow the path to the chalet and turn right to start the long descent to Balmaz by the chalet St-Martin.

Always follow the signs, especially around Combabertan where there are many forest roads. Pass below Les Arbats and reach the plain to then follow a section of the ViaFrancigena to Vernayaz via Miéville, the Pissevache waterfall and the Pied du Mont SBB factory.

Then reach the Mont-Blanc Express station, shortly after the entrance to the Gorges du Trient.

The confusing post of the OEil de Grand Tête:
The eye of the character drawn by the Geoglyph of Grand Tête is located exactly at the top of Grand Tête. To symbolise this eye, the artist has erected a puzzling pole with 360-degree movable indications. As unusual as they may seem, the destinations indicated by this post are all authentic places in French-speaking Switzerland. The puzzling post of the OEil de Grand Tête contains, sealed in its structure, an oath of friendship between the communes of Salvan and Vernayaz.
